I had to leave my job for family/personal reasons.

I had to leave the job due to family circumstances.

If you want to use that construction, the correct way to go about it is to say "because of family circumstances," not "due to."

I would say I was obliged to leave my job... As for because of or due to, I'd go for due to...

SexyBitch

But it's not correct: http://web.ku.edu/~edit/because.html

The thread starter can say "I had to," "I was forced to," "I was obliged to"... It depends on the context.

Муррка все правильно написала "...due to family circumstances". "I had to leave my job due to family circumstances" ИЛИ "I had to leave my job for personal reasons"

Ну неправильно это построение! "Due to" functions just like an adjective, and "because of" functions as an adverb! So, since we're saying "I had to leave my job," we need to find a prepositional phrase that would modify the verb, not the noun. Sure, most people use the two phrases interchangeably, but it's not proper grammar!

согласна с 8, это сочетание употребляется в качестве "благодаря чему-то", а не "из-за чего-то" и не как следствие причины

Скажите, I had to - это больше "я должна", а тут "Я была вынуждена".

Trust me SexyBitch, it is the same shit. You can say it either way. Judging by #3 your English is far from perfect.

Эйвочка, hahaha! I've been living in the US since I was 7! I'm sorry to disappoint you. :-)

Гера, "I had to..." is exactly how an AMERICAN would express what you're trying to say. Try searching that phrase in google to see for yourself.

Using Due To

Due to means "caused by." It should be used only if it can be substituted with "caused by."

It does not mean the same as "because of."

Incorrect: The game was postponed due to rain.

Correct: The game was postponed because of rain.

Correct: The game's postponement was due to rain.

The wordy expression due to the fact that should be replaced by because or since.
